EXETER Lib Dems have selected Will Aczel to stand for the party in the next General Election.
Will said: “I am honoured and excited to stand up for a fair deal for Exeter.
“I grew up in this city so deeply care about it and understand the issues we face.
“From litter-picking to supporting local initiatives, working at independent Exeter health food stores to speaking up for my local community, I passionately care about making Exeter the best it can be.
“I aim to fulfil our need for a stronger political voice so we can secure better funded public services, lower bills, and create a thriving environment. “Therefore, my campaign slogan is ‘Listening. Caring. Environment.’
“The Liberal Democrats are the party that listens and cares.
“We are the largest party consistently calling for proportional representation. “This is a vital first step in sorting out our political system so that every vote counts, people can vote for who they actually want, and politicians can be better held to account.
"Our public services are in urgent need of investment, regulation, and reform in the public interest.
“I’m passionate about creating a thriving, quality, sustainable environment. “Learning through my Open University Master’s, I understand how it's more important than ever to shift investment to renewable energy, insulation, and public transport. This also saves us money in the long-run.
“As a young local who has grown up in Exeter, I’m in an invested and informed position to represent our diverse city.
“I look forward to knocking on many doors to listen to and speak with as many people as I can. Together, we can build a better future.”
Cllr Adrian Fullam said: “Voters in Exeter are tired of being taken for granted by Labour as the Conservatives are fading away.
“Whilst Labour impose their own ideas, they leave liberal cities like Exeter behind.
“This presents a golden opportunity to choose someone fresh to listen and authentically represent Exeter.
"I'm thrilled to throw my full weight behind Will: a strong, talented local candidate.
“He's not only kind and caring, but also passionate about our environment and making sure we have a real democracy where the voices of the people are heard loud and clear and inform decisions."
Cllr Michael Mitchell said: "It's great to support Will. He offers a fresh, local voice, one that deeply cares about our city.
“Whilst Labour think they can get away with parachuting in a London councillor, Lib Dems genuinely listen to our communities’ needs.
“Exeter is crying out for a local champion to represent us and we have that in Will.
“The recent by-election and council wins across the South West show the Lib Dems are well and truly back.”
