CREDITON Town Council is pushing Devon County Council to install a pedestrian crossing in Commercial Road/Marsh Lane – and a petition has just been launched to back the bid.

Devon County Council intends to widen Commercial Road/Marsh Lane in the near future and Crediton Town Council believes a pedestrian crossing should be a part of the scheme.

Julie Clawson of Crediton has launched a petition on the website: www.change.org asking people to support the need for such a crossing.

She writes: “Since the new link road has been operating it has become increasingly dangerous to get to the leisure centre (Lords Meadow Leisure Centre) in Crediton.

“A pedestrian crossing is needed at the point between Hawkins Way (by Mid Devon Tyres) and the leisure.

“We want to encourage people to use the leisure centre and to walk there.

“We therefore need a safe place to cross the road.

As of yet, Devon County Council has not acknowledged that a crossing is needed at the location.
