Crediton Freemasons welcomed 37 visitors to their Open Day at the Unity Lodge in Union Road on Saturday, June 25.

Anyone curious about Freemasonry was invited to go along to listen to an explanation of Freemasonry in Crediton during the last 150 years.

W Bro Philip Bourne explained: “Front of house staff, directed visitors who started arriving from 2pm sharp.

“Visitors were looked after at this point by Peter Howison, George Cousins, Chris Burrow, Marc Brooks and myself.

“Front of house staff directed visitors to the regalia exhibits, and then upstairs to Lodge Room.

“Here they were given an explanation of the workings and history of Freemasonry generally, and in Crediton in particular, by the upstairs team, headed up by Colin Wroth.

“The Bar was opened up and Crediton Red Cross set up a table nearby with leaflets etc, in the dining room, where Phil Mitchell had set up an exhibition of his paintings, which attracted strong interest.

“Visitors expressed pleasure at the insight given into Freemasonry, by Colin’s talk, and on their return from upstairs, took up the offer of cream teas in the dining room, served by Doreen Cousins, Gill Howison and Lyn Stapleton.

“Many people saw information in the Crediton Courier, on our pavement board outside or had received a flier.

“It was felt that this had been a good way to express our recovery from lockdown and a good follow up, to restore our good links with the community after our previous Open Day in 2017.”
