CREDITON Town Council has launched a questionnaire regarding on-street parking charges proposals.

Devon County Council (DCC) is proposing to introduce a payment system for on-street parking in Crediton High Street, Town Square and some side roads.

It is proposing a short period of free parking, perhaps 20 minutes or 30 minutes, but on condition of taking a ticket from a parking meter.

Tickets for longer than that period will be chargeable.

DCC’s view is that this will increase parking turnover, reduce congestion and ensure on-street parking enforcement is efficient and sustainable.  DCC says that any surplus income will be used to help fund management of transport and traffic related services, including bus subsidies.

To support the discussions that the Town Council is having with Devon County Council, the views of residents, businesses and visitors is needed.

Crediton Town Clerk, Rachel Avery said: “Whilst we are aware that all levels of local government are facing financial difficulties, we need to be able to balance this with the needs of our locality.

“We feel strongly that our community should be able to effectively influence the decisions made for Crediton.”

A QR code for the consultation is available on the town council website and Facebook page.

Paper copies are available in the library and the town council offices, or you can use this link: https://forms.office.com/e/CJRjNG9ywW

A number of other towns in Devon are also being considered for parking meters by Devon County Council.
