A NEW councillor is being sought to fill a vacancy on North Tawton Town Council.

The council is seeking to “co-opt” the new councillor, which means the council can choose whom it wants instead of voting members of the public.

Anyone wanting to join the local authority must be at least 18 years old and a British or eligible Commonwealth citizen.

There are also other necessary qualifications, such as living or working in the parish area.

If you want to apply for the role, you should submit a completed co-option and eligibility application form to Town Clerk Melanie Bickell by Monday, July 29.

The forms can be found on the council’s website or can be obtained from the town clerk.

Queries should be addressed to the town clerk by telephone on 01837 880121, by email at [email protected] or via the online form on the council’s website.

North Tawton Town Council is also recruiting a deputy town clerk.

The job is advertised on a part-time basis of 12 hours per week (normally two six-hour days) at a rate of £14.21 to £15.67 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.

A town clerk is responsible for the day-to-day running of the council and the deputy town clerk’s role is broadly similar.

The council describes it as a “great opportunity for someone who wants an interesting and challenging role”.

The closing date for applications is Friday, August 2. The application form and job description are available on the council’s website and from the town clerk.
