NEWTON St Cyres Art Group members were delighted to welcome Alex Boon, Nature Journaling Educator and Artist to their monthly meeting.

Alex is a “self-taught artist, writer and naturalist” who focuses on creatively recording the flora and fauna of his local surroundings and beautifully presenting these images in a realistic style in his journals.

Members were keen to ask lots of questions about the materials used and his thought processes and Alex was generous in sharing information regarding his artistic practice.

Equally interesting was Alex’s journey to becoming a full-time artist, as he outlined how he has had to diversify into areas including social media and running nature journaling retreats.

Many members commented how inspired they were by his talk and will maybe try to follow his example at our next informal “Meet to Paint” session.
