LAPFORD Community Primary School was recently fortunate enough to have received a grant from The Siobhan Dowd Trust, which enables disadvantaged children to be able to access high quality books.
The school was awarded £500 for pupils to select reading for pleasure books at an independent bookshop.
A selection of pupils visited The Bookery in Crediton on Tuesday, October 8 afternoon to choose new books for the school library.
Mrs J Wright, Head of School, said: “At Lapford School, reading is at the centre of all we do, and we have a strong relationship with The Bookery.
“We were fortunate enough to recently welcome The Bookery and children’s author Chloe Savage.
“Chloe worked with the children for over an hour, sharing excerpts from her latest book and talking them through the writing and illustration process.
“They even took part in an activity to design a jellyfish character, thinking about how to convey emotions through pictures.
“At the end of the visit, each child was kindly gifted a signed copy of Chloe’s book, “The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish”.
