I WAS interested to read Pamela Galloway's letter in last week's Crediton Courier (February 13). The lady suggests that "Devon is moving toward Labour" and in the next breath says that the "odds are stacked against them". She talks about the damage that the "Tory's and Liberal Democrats have done to society", and goes on to talk about the cuts that have had to be made, with more to come. I would like to remind the lady of what happened when the present Government took office and the gift that was left to them by the previous administration. On the desk in an office in the Treasury building was a note to say that the "cupboard was bear" and there was no more money left. That is why the cuts had to be made. What we need to ask ourselves is this: Where do we want to go, do we want to go back to "boom and bust" and borrowing more money that the country cannot afford, and possibly end up like Greece, almost bankrupt? Or carry on as we are going, slowly but surely getting back on our feet and holding our heads up high. I am lead to believe that Labour has plans for cuts as well. But of course being a democracy we can choose. How does the old saying go? "never go back but keep going forward"? Anne Hughes Lennard Road Crediton
