Avon and Somerset Police have warned local residents to only make essential journeys.
The poor weather conditions overnight saw multiple traffic incidents between Frome and Radstock as temperatures dropped to minus four.
Locals say that water run-off from fields surrounding the A362 (Frome, off Vallis Road) caused sheets of black ice to cover the roads.
The first of many collisions happened at that location at around 5PM yesterday. The accident involved one vehicle which came off the road and crashed into the grassy bank edge of one of the fields.
Avon and Somerset Police closed off the route between Terry Hill Crossroads (A366) and Sandscross Lane at Buckland Dinham last night. Road closures were also in place due to ice from the A362 Frome Road to the junction of the A366.
