WHAT nicer way to spend a warm Saturday evening than outside in neat grounds, a lovely view and good music, able to wander about to chat with friends or just sit and chill out.
The evening was Saturday, June 17 at Downes, the home of Henry and Susan Parker when Crediton Boniface Rotary Club and Crediton Town Band presented an evening of music to raise funds for Mid Devon Hospiscare at Home and for the Town Band.
People took along their own chairs, some tables too, for this Cider and Pasty Proms, sponsored by Sandford Orchards. A pasty each was included in the ticket price, with more than 500 being devoured.
People paid for the strawberries and cream afterwards and there was a bar.
As well as the Town Band, with its new Musical Director Chris Taylor for the first time, was the Hospiscare Choir. Town Band President Paul Evans was compere, leading everyone singing where needed.
Sharon Hoskins from Hospiscare@Home said the service relied heavily on donations and support of the community. “You do not know what your support means to our patients, families and loved ones,” she said.
She, like Paul Evans, thanked Henry and Susan Parker and the Rotary Club for its members’ hard work and determination for organising the evening with the Choir.
It was explained that Hospiscare@Home is a charitable service that works in partnership with health and social services. It is provided by Hospiscare, the hospice charity for Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

At the end, after rollicking singing, as in a Last Night of the Proms, Paul presented Susan Parker with a huge bouquet of flowers in thanks for allowing use of the grounds.
