EVERY year Devon Libraries host a Summer Reading Challenge, where children aim to finish reading six books over their summer holidays, collecting stickers for their Summer Reading Challenge pack along the way.
When a child finishes the challenge they are awarded with a medal and certificate (and this year each child finishing won a prize too).
Every year Crediton Library awards the school with the highest percentage of children who complete the challenge the Summer Reading Challenge shield with the school’s name engraved upon it, kindly donated by the Friends of Crediton Library.
Beth from Crediton Library visited Morchard Bishop Church of England Primary School on Monday, October 16, to present them with the Summer Reading Challenge shield.
The School had the highest percentage of Summer Reading Challenge finishers, with 45 children - which is nearly half of the school’s population - having completed the challenge.
Huge congratulations go to Morchard Bishop School for winning the shield yet again.
Mr Butler, Academy Head of the School, said: “It is great to see that the children are reading for pleasure outside of the school and accessing the wonderful collection of books available to them at the library.
“We have worked hard to continue to promote a love of reading and initiatives such as ‘Book of the Week’ and the teachers’ ‘Top 3 Titles’ have really helped to develop regular and purposeful conversations about high quality children’s books.
“We have made significant investments into our reading curriculum which will culminate with the redevelopment of our school library over the course of the next half-term.”
Children from 27 local schools entered the Summer Reading Challenge at Crediton Library.
If you successfully completed the challenge and haven’t yet collected your prize, call in at Crediton Library.
