FULL OF detail and with many photographs, Leaders of Mid Devon District Scouts were treated to an all-too-short presentation about the 25th World Scout Jamboree held this year in Seoul in August.

The presentation was given at the meeting in the Boniface Centre, Crediton by Leader Linda Atonguia and Explorer Scout Alice Smith from the Tedburn and Cheriton Bishop Scout Group, both part of the Devon contingent.

They said the opening ceremony had been “incredible”, then under sweltering conditions the Devon Unit moved into an hotel in Seoul, discovering lots to do there.

They said selection for Seoul began in October 2021.  This was the first time Devon had sent two Units for a selection weekend, then came camps all around Devon for them for training and getting to know each other.

Before joining the Jamboree, they spent six days in an hotel in Seoul seeing as much as they could including the Korean National War Museum and the border between North and South Korea.

They visited a night market, watched a football match, activities at the Olympic Park, and totally admired the amount of work it must have taken to arrange for so many Scouts to stay in an hotel during the Jamboree at such short notice.

There was also a small display of the work of Mercy Scouts based in Kampala, Uganda who work directly with Scout groups and local villages to change lives and empower people.
