A SANDFORD woman who has run a 200 Club in aid of her local cricket and football team has stepped down from the role after more than 20 years.
As a thank you for her service, Margaret Phillips (87), received a lovely bouquet of flowers and a letter from the chairman of Sandford Cricket Club, Mike Discombe.
He wrote: “Our executive committee and all our members would like to convey our thanks to you for running the Sandford 200 Club over the years.
“When operated as a joint venture by yourself and Derrick, both the cricket and football clubs in Sandford benefitted greatly from the generosity of the village but your efforts in pulling it together have been amazing.
“I am sure that Derrick would have been immensely proud how you kept the 200 Club running after he passed and we owe you our heartfelt gratitude.
“At our latest committee meeting it was agreed that we would also arrange for a plaque to be attached to one of our garden benches marking your commitment to the 200 Club for others to see.
“Thank you for your loyalty to the Cricket Club, we really are very grateful.”
