MANY walks of life, especially the arts, were represented at the celebration at Crediton Parish Church on Monday, September 12 for the life of Rod Brookes-Hocking who died on August 20, aged 73.
The service was led by the Rector, the Rev Matthew Tregenza, with the former Rector, the Rev Preb Nigel Guthrie.
All the music had been chosen by Rod. The choir, Sandford Sings of which Rod was a member, sang during the service.
There was also the song “Sing Gently as One” which had been performed in 2020 by a virtual choir of 17,572 singers from around the world, one of whom was Rod.
Tributes were given by Digger (Derek) Holt, a friend and first teaching colleague, Caroline Merrett, daughter, David Agasee, friend and walking partner, Veronica Bird, daughter, Kate Lock and Mary Stephenson, friends and co-creators, Nick Brookes-Hocking, son, and Rod’s widow, Liz Brookes-Hocking.
In recognition of Rod’s lifelong commitment to the arts and young people, proceeds from a retiring collection were for The National Youth Arts Trust, a charity which provides opportunities in dance, music and drama for 12-25 year olds from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Donations may also be made through A White and Sons, Funeral Directors, of Albert Road, Crediton, EX17 2BZ.
