THE showing of the film “Six inches of soil” followed by Questions and Answers to a professional panel, was a hugely successful community event organised by Andrew Davey and Sustainable Crediton.
The Methodist church, with its twin screens, was packed. Many of the people I didn’t know.
A retired farmer next to me and his wife, from Thorverton, had seen the film advertised in the “Courier”.
As a boy he’d seen how his father farmed small, so for his career he aimed to farm bigger, the way he thought best. Now he was there “to learn something”.
The atmosphere through the Questions and Answers session was was of deep concern and concentration. Six inches of soil is all we have.
Sustainable Crediton has an impressive record in planting trees and hedges. Farmers, please ask.
Thank you for a brilliant evening, for bringing us together to learn.
