PUPILS at Landscore Primary School in Crediton created an enormous money tree on Friday, November 22, as part of Just One Tree’s campaign.
Just One Tree aims to show children the impact that JUST ONE individual can have on the environment and how much can be achieved when we collectively work together.
By bringing in a selection of small coins, as a school, the pupils raised a grand total of £100.11.
This figure will allow 100 trees to be planted, supporting reforestation projects in Madagascar, Haiti, Mozambique, Nepal and Kenya.
The event took place during National Tree Week, organised by the Tree Council, which is the UK’s largest annual tree celebration and marks the start of the winter tree planting season.
The School Council decided that this was a charity it wanted to support and that it wanted to grow a money tree as a different fundraising idea.
Headteacher, Debbie Main commented: “The children at Landscore are very aware of environmental issues and are always incredibly eager to support charities where they feel they can make a difference.
“I am so proud of the children and am very impressed by the amount of money they raised. A big thank you to our whole community.”
