HOSPISCARE is inviting people to take part in its “Summer Walk” fundraiser.

The seven-mile walk will return for its second year on Saturday, July 13.

Participants will start at Darts Farm with a gelato, enjoy a glass of Pimm’s on the way at The Puffing Billy and finish with a cream tea in Lympstone.

The family-friendly event, which raised £44,000 for the local end-of-life charity last year, is open to all ages and abilities.

“We’re so excited to bring the Summer Walk back for 2024,” Hospiscare Events Manager Tori Vince said.

“We have some exciting plans for this year's event, and we can’t wait to welcome walkers to the beautiful Darts Farm to celebrate summer with Hospiscare.”

Arrival and registration are from 1.30pm on the day. The walk will begin at 3pm, and the event will end at 8.30pm.

It costs £25 per person to sign up with deals of £40 for a group of two and £72 for a group of four.

“As a community-focused business, we understand the importance of supporting local and giving back where we can,” James Dart of Darts Farm said.

“We’re pleased to be partnering with Hospiscare for the second year of their Summer Walk and helping to make this year’s event even more special, while raising much-needed funds to support the local hospice which is very dear to our hearts.”

This year’s Summer Walk is sponsored by Hilton-Ames and West Country Contracting.

Director of West Country Contracting Will Searles said: “The event will celebrate the best of British summertime and I know our staff members are keen to participate and support a meaningful cause while having a bit of fun along the way!”

Director of Business Development for Hilton-Ames Paul Newman added: "As a local business, it is incredibly important for us to support a charity that has such a vital impact on our community.

“We put the customer experience at the forefront of everything we do and we know that those who take part in Hospiscare's Summer Walk will have this first class experience."

Hospiscare supports over 2,000 patients and their families across Devon every year.

With just 20 per cent of the charity’s funding coming from the NHS, it relies upon donations from the public and needs to raise around £9.7 million annually to provide its expert care at no cost to its patients and their families.

The hospice is facing a £2.5 million funding deficit and was forced to reduce its services at the beginning of April as a result.
