A LOCAL man who is collecting Humanitarian Aid for his third trip to Ukraine will be collecting donations in Crediton Rugby Club car park between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, November 26.

Shobrooke man Joe Bussell said: “I am a volunteer helping provide aid for both military and civilian assistance and have successfully completed two journeys, the last in September 2022 to an aid centre in Komarno, just south of Lviv.

“From that base I delivered several boxes of medical/medicine supplies to Lviv Hospital and the remainder together with boxes of toiletries and food were delivered to the Dnipro military base by the Komarno volunteer drivers.

“All other items such as clothing, toys, toiletries, food, baby items and bedding etc will be distributed to local refugees currently in and around Komarno.

“I am now planning my third journey and seeking donations of additional Humanitarian Aid.”

The items Joe would like are:

Medical - Trauma packs (severe military and civilian injuries), bandages, plasters, antiseptic, first aid boxes, prescription and non prescription medicines.

Winter clothes for military forces - new and used, t-shirts, base layers, thermals, boot socks.

Winter clothes for civilians - new and used, all weather waterproof coats and jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, ski jackets and salopette trousers, hoodies and jumpers.

Toiletries - Soap, flannels, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, female items, toothpaste, toothbrushes.

Baby items - Nappies, wipes, tissues, talc, skincare.

Children - Colouring books, pencils, crayons, puzzles, board games, play balls, soft cuddle dolls and teddies, arts and crafts, sweets and chocolate.

Non Perishable food - dry foods, high protein foods and snack bars, tea and coffee and “hot” drink granules.

Joe said he was very grateful to Brittany Ferries who have kindly provided free passage for his vehicle and himself and another driver.

Joe has opened a new JustGiving Crowdfunding page to help raise the £1,600 to finance his third journey.

Any help would be appreciated.

Joe recently collected 15kg of items from Heather Sansom in Crediton.

The items consisted mainly of much needed toiletries and medicines.

The smallest items were a bundle of 30 toothbrushes including some decorated with glitter for children.

Russia attacks the power supplies to Ukraine and Heather’s donation of candles and matches was kindly matched by David Adams.

It is already snowing in Ukraine and the severe winter is yet to start.
