CREDITON Town Band is delighted to announce and welcome the appointment of Iorwerth Pugh as its Musical Director.

Iorwerth started playing the trombone in Ottery St Mary Silver Band aged 12 and went on to play in classical groups, big bands, jazz groups and other ensembles.

Iorwerth has had a career spanning four decades as a music lecturer at Exeter College.

During that time he taught A level Music, Btec Popular music and other courses. He led many ensembles at Exeter College including choirs, orchestras, jazz improvisation workshops and especially the big band.

Having studied music at Dartington College of Arts, Iorwerth has maintained a very full interest in classical music. He has directed several local choral societies culminating in performances of works by many of the great composers.

In recent years Iorwerth has dipped his toes into the folk music world and has an alter ego as a tenor banjo player plucking out many tunes of the British Isles.

On retirement, Iorwerth joined the Crediton Town Band through his friendship with John Glanfield and has thoroughly enjoyed his time there.

Their late and much missed musical director, Chris Taylor made a considerable impression on him and on his sad passing the will to resume conducting led to him auditioning for the vacant post.

Iorwerth is grateful and thrilled to have been offered the opportunity to lead the band especially as he feels the members to be a wonderfully aspirational, warm and friendly group of people.

Having just appointed Iorwerth as MD, the band now has a full complement but new players are welcome, if prepared to join in and double-up on parts where extra resilience is needed for engagements.  To get in touch, email: [email protected] .
