CREDITON’S Parish Church Choir will lead the Nine Lessons and Carols service with the Bishop of Crediton, the Rt Rev Jackie Searle (who is currently the acting Bishop of Exeter), also attending, on Sunday, December 17.
This traditional service, made famous by the Christmas Eve broadcasts by Kings College, Cambridge, is a favourite with choirs and congregations everywhere.
It comes in the middle of an exceptionally busy time for the choir; a few days earlier they showed their versatility in a choir concert during the Christmas Tree Festival.
Swapping their usual attire for Christmas jumpers and Santa hats, the choir entertained the audience with a wide range of items from carols by John Rutter to “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”.
Sunday’s Nine Lessons and Carols, which starts at 6pm, will mix traditional congregational hymns with lively new carols; it is always an extremely popular service so the message from the choir is get there early for the best seats!
