NEWTON St Cyres Art Group was delighted to start the New Year by welcoming Kari McGowan, a skilled water-colourist, to give a demonstration at the January meeting.
Although Kari paints a variety of subjects, her focus for the demonstration was using watercolour to paint some camellias.
She talked the group through her colour choices and explained all the planning that goes on behind the stages of the painting in-order for the result to appear spontaneous.
Kari also showed us techniques to give light and glow to a painting, the resultant artwork of the beautifully and loosely painted camellias looked effortless and just sparkled.
Members agreed this knowledge will be enormously helpful when applied to their own artistic practice.
Demonstrations by professional artists are included in the group’s membership and are inspiring to watch, so if you would be interested in joining, please contact Sue Trembath via: [email protected] or 01363 866439.
It is a friendly group and new members are very welcome.
