THERE was a good turnout for a Frawzy, recently held at the Boniface Centre, Crediton.

A Frawzy is a Devonshire dialect word for a treat, a cake, a pudding or a dainty feast.

Those attending took along and shared their home-cooked Devon food, sweet or savoury and share their memories of Devonshire delights with others.

Dr Paul Cleave gave an introduction and there was an interactive discussion about Devon food and culture.

The guest exhibitor was Gray’s Devon Cider and samples of cheese were kindly provided by Quicke’s Cheese of Newton St Cyres.

Traditional Devonshire folk music was provided by musicians Jim Causley and Bill Murray.

The event was organised by the Devon Voice Group, a group of people who share a love of the Devonian accent and dialect.

The group meets weekly to talk about how phrases and words that members remember fondly have changed and how they would like our accent to be represented today.
