John Downes, a member of Crediton Town Council and Mid Devon District Council who lives at Blagdon, volunteered to be the club's chairman for its first year.,
He had been disappointed that when he moved to Crediton in 2002 that the town's previous garden club folded the same year.
At the revised meeting, Mrs Celia Boyle was elected secretary and Mrs Jenny Page as treasurer. Membership will be £1 per year and meetings held monthly, possibly with garden visits as well, with a break during the winter.
The idea for the club revival came from Crediton Mayor Cllr Frank Letch. He had lived in a village in Wales with a population of 300 where there was a very successful garden club, that included seed and plant swops plus an annual flower and vegetable show.
At Crediton he would like to see that held on the town square, depending on the weather, or at the Old Town Hall.
Dee Ross said Crediton Climate Action Group was holding a "seed swop on Saturday, January 30 at Crediton Congregational Church. It was hoped this would be an annual event with, perhaps, a plant swop in the spring. It was suggested the garden club might host the plant swop.
The Climate Action Group was also organising a "land swop" where people who were not able to cultivate all their garden could share their space with someone else.
Possible speakers and other programme ideas were discussed.
