NEWTON St Cyres Art Group has an exciting and varied programme of demonstrations and workshops lined-up, the Autumn season with prestigious local artist Rachel Toll.

Rachel, who specialises in watercolour, spent the morning demonstrating to the Art Group how to paint in a loose, but realistic style, a sunlit Devon lane, with dappled shadows reaching across the road.

As ever, Rachel was very generous in sharing her knowledge.

As a result members, both new and experienced, felt that they learnt many good tips, not only about water colour, but also about composition and creating focal points.

It was particularly encouraging to learn that Rachel is self-taught and she urged members to practice regularly to develop their watercolour skills.

An opportunity to do this will be at our next meeting, which is a Club Morning, where members can, if they wish, come together to practice some of these skills shared by Rachel.

These demonstrations are free to members of the art group and are inspiring to watch and “you learn so much”.
