CREDITON couple, David and Marilyn Carpenter celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, August 29.
David and Marilyn met as teenagers when they both attended the same Youth Group. Dave first noticed Marilyn on a day trip to Haytor as she was the first one to volunteer and climb the Tor.
Two years later they got married at St Michael’s and All Angels Church, Heavitree, Exeter at 2pm, with John Carpenter, David’s older brother, as his best man, and Andrea and Cathy Palmer, Marilyn’s younger sisters as bridesmaids.
Afterwards they travelled by train to London for their Honeymoon.
They both share a keen love of sport, David, who played for Exeter Chiefs in his day, and Marilyn, a former Devon Netball Captain, both enjoyed watching their children Louise, Joe and Emma in various sporting events over the years and now their grandchildren, Becky, Danny and James.
They are currently members of Crediton Bowls club, where Marilyn is Ladies Captain and David can often be seen attending to the green.
Due to Covid-19, their plans to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary with family and friends had to be cancelled, but they did manage to go for a nice meal and had a day out to Haytor.
