MORRISONS Crediton has been joining the national effort to help prevent holiday hunger this summer.

Morrisons 497 stores and 25 manufacturing and logistic sites have been supporting school holiday activity programmes - arranged by local schools, community groups and HAF (the Holiday Activities and Food Programme). In total, Morrisons promised to donate £100,000 of food to local holiday clubs across the country.

To help those in need, Morrisons already gives surplus food to local causes, such as food banks through its unsold food programme. In addition, its in-store Food Bank “Pick Up Pack” scheme, allows customers to purchase a bag filled with a mix of food products, which are distributed to local food banks and community organisations by in-store Community Champions supporting individuals and families.

Mandy Fosbrooke, the Crediton store Community Champion, has been sharing the Morrisons Summer Holiday Hunger Food donations with Crediton Food Bank and the Fish Tank children’s group which runs from the Crediton Congregational Church.

On Monday, August 22 the Crediton store held a Food Drive with Fiona Cochran, Crediton Food Bank Co-Ordinator.

A large amount of food was donated by generous shoppers, many donating Five-a-Day Packs of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Mandy said afterwards: “A massive thank you to all of our customers for their continued support in our amazing community.

“Fiona and Rachel (from the Food Bank) and I were blown away with the engagement created by today’s Food Drive and the sheer generosity of the Morrisons customers.”
