MID Devon District Council has introduced 10 complimentary short-stay parking spaces, available for up to two hours, at the Forge Way car park in Cullompton in an effort to boost the local economy.
This initiative aims to reinvigorate foot traffic on the High Street and provide vital support to local businesses during the post-Christmas lull.
Located strategically at the bottom of the car park and clearly marked with a distinctive red line, these free parking spaces are a temporary measure designed to encourage shoppers to support local establishments in the quieter trading months following the festive season.
Councillor Steve Keable, Mid Devon District Council Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Regeneration, said: "We have formally consulted with the Cullompton community and its representatives, actively listening to the needs of our residents.
“In response to requests from local traders and shopkeepers for additional 'free' car parking for shoppers during the holiday season, we have decided to provide this temporary arrangement into the springtime."
As the ongoing Bullring works near completion, the Council sees this as an opportune moment to provide further assistance to the community and local businesses. This initiative aligns with the Council's dedication to economic regeneration and enhancing the overall local shopping experience.
