DEVON Carers, Crediton Library and Significant Seams are pleased to announce a series of FREE art workshops in the Holiday season, via grant support from the Carers Trust.
The free sessions will run from 9.30am to 11.30am on Saturday, November 30, Friday, December 6, Friday, Dec 13, Saturday, Dec 14, and Friday, December 20.
Over the course of the series, those taking part will have the opportunity to make a Journey Notebook, Pompom Snowballs, and their own wrapping paper.
Earlier this year Significant Seams led a project called “The Craft of Caring” and curated an exhibition called “The Care Trail” across six venues in Crediton.
The Craft of Caring highlighted the experiences, support needs, and insights of carers and provided a range of art activities that led to a collaborative artwork.
One Crediton resident who took part said: “Having people understanding your situation - a problem shared is a problem halved. The action of what you make is just the start. My son went to one of the workshops and got stuck in. He has never done that before.”
Another participant said: “This project was a great gift personally, it finally shook me up enough about the whole subject, being right in the subject matter, being involved in caring, with art medium, my identity has been totally shifted.”
The Care Trail installations are estimated to have had a live audience of 6,500 over six days.
This workshop series, “Craft of Caring At Christmas”, is designed to respond to a request that came out of the earlier project: For “Art making with no expectations, just a place to play, particularly for carers with their carees.”
Significant Seams artist, Catherine West, will lead the sessions, and a representative from Devon Carers will be on-hand at all sessions to provide support and answer any questions carers may have.
