WORK on repairing the drains and road surface through Fordton is scheduled to start on Monday October 26, working on the drains first before the resurfacing can begin.
The work is expected to take a total of eight weeks to complete.
Reporting to a meeting of Crediton Hamlets Parish Council on Monday, October 5, Devon County Councillor Nick Way said the road was likely to be shut on a few occasions during the drainage work stage but there would be traffic lights or Stop/Go boards during the main part of the work, some of which would be done off road.
Cllr Way said that the resurfacing would be “a fairly major job” and he has been informed it will require a full road closure with diverted traffic.
This work is expected to take two weeks to complete and would not begin until after the drainage work had been done. This would include improved drainage along the pavement kerbs.
Work would begin at the Crediton Milling end of Fordton and finish at the railway level crossing. Cllr Way said a local contractor was doing the work for the county council.
There would be temporary restrictions on parking along parts of Fordton but only the sections being worked on, people would still be able to park on other parts.
He has asked if part of the Park and Ride car park could be given over temporarily for Fordton residents who had temporarily lost car parking.
Cllr Way added that he has been informed residents would be receiving letters from the project’s community liaison officer, including his contact details explaining the finer details sometime next week.
