There will be various stalls, including bric-a-brac, cakes, books and games.
Teas will also be available, with funds raised from the event going to chapel funds and the charity, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) (Doctors Without Borders).
MSF is a leading independent humanitarian organisation for emergency medical aid. In more than 75 countries worldwide it provides relief to the victims of war, natural disasters and epidemics, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.
MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.
The event is being organised by the Friends of St Lawrence Chapel.
The chapel is situated opposite Early Birds Nursery.
On Sunday, August 12, a special “Friends” Evensong will be held at the chapel, beginning at 6pm, to which all are welcome.
The relatively recently-restored chapel was once an anchorite’s cell, part of Crediton’s medieval hospital, later three cottages and most recently a school chapel.
It was built in Early English style in around 1200 AD. It was used as a hospital – to provide hospitality to travellers and as a refuge for the sick and incapacitated – from the late 13th century to the early 16th century.
Copies of the recently-published, 30-page booklet “St Lawrence Chapel” by Mrs Isolde Summers will be available to purchase at the Fair.
The fascinating booklet includes not only a detailed history of the chapel but also details about Saint Lawrence himself, and the use of the Chapel today.
It retails at £4.99. The ISBN is 978-1-5272-1795-9.
The booklet, which is published by The Friends of St Lawrence Chapel, and was printed by Hedgerow Print of Crediton, is also available at Crediton Community Bookshop.
Many interesting colour and black and white images are included in the booklet, including some taken by the “Crediton Courier”.
