HELP is at hand for people living along a “nightmare” Devon lane where friends and relatives fear to visit.
A petition was presented to Devon County Council calling for action over Kingsford Lane in Longdown near Exeter after residents said the surface had deteriorated to the point where they risk injury and serious damage to their cars.
Now the council says the leafy lane is scheduled for repairs.
Members of the council’s cabinet heard recently that drivers of small cars can’t get through floodwater in the lane, while others have seen their vehicles badly damaged by the terrible road surface.
More than 40 residents signed the petition, saying the lane had only been resurfaced once in 30 years and is now in a “shocking” state.
One resident said: “We all feel that the council doesn’t care.
“The damage to our cars is constant and family and friends no longer want to come up the lane to visit us.”
A Devon County Council spokesman said the matter is in-hand.
He added: “We thank the local community for the petition presented to cabinet and we will be responding to them on this issue.
“It was announced at full council recently that patching repairs to Kingsford Lane are included within the county council’s provisional works programme for 2024/25.
“It is then intended that the road will be surface dressed the following season in 2025/26, should funding allow.
“In the meantime any safety defects will be repaired in line with our highway safety policy.”
