TWO local organisations are working together to host An Evening of Folk Songs and Stories at the Old Town Hall in Crediton from 7.30pm on Friday, October 25.

Crediton Area History and Museum Society and the Folklore Library and Archive, which have already collaborated on this year’s folklore exhibition at Crediton Museum, will be celebrating the rich heritage of songs and stories with a local or folkloric connection.

“We’ve been lucky in bringing together several well-known singers and storytellers from around the area for this event,” says Tony Gale of CAHMS, “And I’m pleased to say that they will be delivering a fascinating range of material – some you’ll be familiar with, and some you’ve almost certainly never heard before.”

“Which is an interesting challenge,” says Mark Norman of the Folklore Library and Archive. “Folklore, by its very nature, tends to work with familiar stories.

“What we find, though, is that those stories and songs have been passed down in different forms – and of course, storytellers and singers often interpret them in their own way.”

Tickets for An Evening of Folk Songs and Stories are £5 a head, and are available from: [email protected]  or at the museum.

Those who attend should take along their own refreshments.
