FOLLOWING the success of last year’s exhibition, four artists in and around North Tawton are preparing for their second exhibition inspired by their love of the Devon Landscape.

“Drawn by Nature 2” runs through the weekend of November 9 and 10 at North Tawton Bowls Club and will be open from 11am to 4.30pm on both days.

All four artists use their local environment to produce work which is truly diverse and illustrates a variety of techniques and methods.

Celia Olsson is enchanted and over-awed by the landscapes that she finds herself in.

When walking on Dartmoor, in a Devon valley or woodland, she will “landscape bathe” taking in the colours, smells and sounds and later back in her studio she makes studies from her memories of the place.

Celia mostly works with watercolour for its vibrant transparent qualities, but also likes to incorporate various media, including ink, pastels, collage, photographs, or even items from the kitchen cupboard!

Emmeline Webb will be showcasing some new lino cuts and handprinted textiles along with recent paintings inspired by the local countryside and her love of stained glass.

Her intricate designs are evident on her amazing, printed fabrics and soft furnishings.

Jo Purdue will be exhibiting her collection of cyanotypes, an original form of photography, where she uses the light sensitive chemicals to capture images of the flora found in her garden and on walks.

These create lovely blue and white prints, but she also experiments with the wet cyanotype process to produce exciting and original images.Jo will also be showing her moor inspired landscapes.

Janet Jarvis has a new collection of pastel and acrylic paintings continuing her interest in portraying wild and farm animals.

After making new friends with subjects at local agricultural shows, this season’s “fur and feather” menagerie includes sheep and a collection of cattle ranging from Jerseys, Longhorns, Black and Whites to Limousins as well as barn owls.

Even a tiger makes an appearance - (it really was in Devon!)

In addition to lots of original artwork there will be prints, greeting cards and other small items, which would make great Christmas presents.

As with last year, there will be refreshments and cake available, and a donation will be made to a local charity.
