OVER the last couple of weeks I have highlighted the role of our younger members who are beginning to take the leads in CODS productions.
This is so important for the continuation of the Society and also gives our audience members a fresh new outlook on the soloists they are listening to.
Two of the main male characters in "Children of Eden" demand performances from the more experienced members of the Society and so this week I will concentrate on us "oldies" who are playing key roles.
I am delighted that Alan Baker is taking the roles of Adam in the first half and then Noah in the second half. Alan is a member of CODS committee and was due to play Curtis in the production of "Sister Act".
Unfortunately Covid came along and his work commitments meant he was so heavily involved that he had to forego any social activities and thus relinquished the role.
I believe Alan would agree that the disappointment of missing out in that show is more than made up in this as he takes on such a challenging role.
I am joining Alan in the role of "God" (there is no need for anyone to make any comments because I’ve already heard them all from the cast!) although thankfully the role is referred to as "Father".
In my 70 years of singing I don’t think I’ve ever come across a more challenging score but the end product is also the most rewarding. And here lies the nub of "Children of Eden". The show is full of wonderful tunes and harmonies telling a couple of stories that give an evening of wonderful entertainment.
Please don’t shy away from attending because you may not know the show. I can assure you CODS would not choose a show that is not entertaining or enjoyable to our audiences. We need your support as your ticket revenue keeps us going!
"Children of Eden" runs from Tuesday, April 11 to Saturday, April 15 at Queen Elizabeth's School's Barnfield campus.
Each performance starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available either through the Box Office link on: www.codsonline.com or by emailing me direct on: [email protected] .
STOP PRESS - You might hear some snippets of the show at this Saturday’s Farmers’ Market!
