A TV gardener and Chelsea Flower Show medallist will be visiting RHS Rosemoor this weekend.

Manoj Malde will be speaking on the subject of “A Garden Designer’s Journey to Chelsea” on Saturday, September 14 from 1.30pm at the 65-acre attraction near Great Torrington.

“Listen to the backstory of the first garden Manoj created at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show,” a spokesperson said.

“Hear about the whole process of design, submission, all the way through to the installation, judging and press day.

“Manoj Malde is an award-winning garden designer and TV gardener, famous for his vibrant style and bold use of colour.

“Best known for his presenting work on the BBC garden show Your Garden Made Perfect and Channel 4's Garden of The Year, his infectious enthusiasm has made him a hugely popular part of the programmes.

“Manoj will be visiting RHS Rosemoor promoting his new book Your Outdoor Room - How to Design a Garden You Can Live In, which details simple and effective ways you make the most of your outdoor space, whether it be a small yard, garden or balcony, to create your own personal outdoor haven.

“Malde, an RHS show judge, and Chelsea Flower Show medallist, attributes his love of colour to his Indian ancestry, as well as his background within the fashion industry, where he worked for 18 years.

“As a former creative director, with a master's degree in fashion design from the Royal College of Art, he is highly skilled at combining textures and colours within planting schemes.

“Manoj describes the design processes behind bespoke gardens and fashion as similar, starting out with themes, mood boards, colour palettes and textures.

“Come and meet this fascinating designer and hear about his experiences as a garden designer at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, with an opportunity to ask questions."

Mr Malde added: “Designing a planting scheme is like creating a beautiful silk print.

“I've gone from haute couture to 'hort' couture.”

Tickets for the event cost £20 for non-RHS members, which includes entry to Rosemoor gardens from 12pm, and £15 for members including one guest.

Doors open at 1pm with the talk starting at 1.30pm, followed by a book-signing.
