THE Chagford Agricultural and Horticultural Show, a traditional Country Fair now entering its 122nd year, will be held this year on Thursday, August 15.
It is held in fields situated on the beautiful banks of the Teign at Mill End (TQ13 8JN), Chagford, courtesy of The National Trust, the Malseed Family, Mr P Morrish, Mr H de Ferranti and Miss B Hayter-Hames.
There is ample free parking, and free buses run from Moretonhampstead and Chagford all day.
With competition classes for agricultural produce, horses, sheep, cattle, dogs, and a vintage section, the Chagford Show embodies the best traditions of a proper Country Show.
Not too big, not too small, it is easy to get around.
There will be more than 200 Trade Stands, a Rural Crafts area, a Food Hall displaying the best of local producers, a Beer Tent and lots of live music throughout the day.
The Main Ring carries a full day of special attractions – this year it’s the Bob Hogg Lamb National Sheep Race, a Sheep Dog Show and a display of lumberjack skills.
There will also be terrier racing, a parade of vintage tractors and cars and a lot more.
The Chagford Show has something for everyone and is a great family day out - go along and see for yourself.
The Show committee would like to thank all of the Sponsors who support the Show.
These include Knight Frank, Jackson-Stopps, Atkins Ferrie, Ruralis Insurance, Mole Valley Farmers, Harpers, Huish Horseboxes, Stringer Equine, Rendells, Dartmoor Brewery, Fingle Bridge Inn, Visit Dartmoor, WBW Solicitors, The Farmer’s Dog, James Bowden, Fowlers, Gillet’s Spar, Rue des Fontenells, Jaded Palates, Dartmoor Shepherd, Blooms and Beyond, Mrs D Terry, Sally Wonnacott and Mrs E Pybus.
The Show is always looking for volunteers to help steward the Show each year. Specifically it needs help with car parking, entry points/checking wrist bands, selling programmes and raffle tickets and marshalling the Vintage Parade.
Gates to the Show open at 8.30am and it runs until 6.30pm. Volunteers who could do a two-hour stint are asked to get in touch.
Please contact Clare Rowe by email: [email protected] or telephone: 07754 457137.
Volunteers get free admission to the Show and other benefits.
Chagford Show is also making a conscious effort to eliminate avoidable, single-use plastic from the showground.
While it cannot cut out all plastic items straight away, it aims to raise awareness, gain support and build a stronger platform on which to build further action.
