ON Monday, September 2, as the staff at Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton returned for the new term's staff training days, Martin Willmott and Tim Ward met with other retired QE staff at a weekly “Breakfast Club” organised by former QE science teacher, Jabbar Al-Sadoon.
The two long serving Queen Elizabeth's teachers enjoyed their first day of retirement in the company of other former QE teachers to reminisce about their many years in the classroom.
Former fellow QE teacher Adam Box, said: “Martin Willmott taught geography and was Head of the Humanities Department for 27 years.
“He was well known for his eccentric habits in class which included taking his shoes off to teach and drinking huge amounts of water to keep his brain refreshed, much to the amusement of his students.
“He was a supportive manager to the rest of the humanities staff but his successor in that role is now looking forward to a much lower photocopying bill!”
About Tim he said: “Tim taught chemistry and science for 34 years.
“He was much respected by those he taught, especially those who took A level Chemistry, many of whom respected him as a knowledgeable and inspirational teacher.
“Tim's colleagues valued his clear thinking, well measured contributions and helpful suggestions which were always intended to improve educational standards.
“Both Martin and Tim commented on how refreshing it was to feel so relaxed at the end of the school summer holidays; something many teachers will not experience until they retire.”
Adam concluded: “I am sure that many former QE students will remember both Martin and Tim with fondness and respect and will wish them a long and happy retirement.”
