CHILDREN from Green Class at Copplestone Primary School have enjoyed growing their own potatoes this term.
The potatoes were grown in large pots and the children looked after them and kept them watered.
They were very excited when they harvested their crop of 160 large potatoes and 160 smaller ones.
The dinner ladies Carina Sparks and Rose Hill prepared and roasted the potatoes for the children to eat as part of their school dinner and the smaller ones were used to make potato salad for the children to take home.
The children also grew lettuce, beetroot and carrots in grow bags from seeds.
A portable light-weight greenhouse was erected in the classroom for children to take part in role play.
During the term the children visited West Town Farm at Ide, where they saw vegetables growing.
Green Class teacher Helen Alton said: “It’s been lovely and made learning vibrant. The children have all been actively involved and practised their maths, literacy and science during the project.
“They were so exciting by the fact that what they have grown could feed the whole school!
