EAST Worlington Parish Hall (EWPH) Committee is very pleased to announce that it has been judged as one of the best.

It was awarded all grades, from the Hallmark range of certifications for Charitable halls, and the certifications were achieved from just a single inspection.

“We encourage halls to demonstrate their good management by achieving Hallmark and many halls manage to gain levels one and two at one assessment, but to achieve all three levels at one time is exceptional and shows great commitment by the trustees. Hallmark compliments the substantial work that has been done to maintain and develop the hall, providing the community with a facility that is both well-presented and well run,” said Martin Rich of Devon Communities Together.

The EWPH is a small Parish Hall, but through commitment and hard work from a voluntary Committee, it is self-funding and a valuable resource for the community.

The EWPH attained:

• Hallmark Level 1 Charity Administration and Management

• Level 2 Health, Safety, Security and Licensing

• Level 3 Community and Social Awareness, and Forward Planning.

“EWPH is extremely excited to have been awarded this grading from Hallmark. The award is a reflection of all the hard work of our committee volunteers, who give their time freely, generously and willingly to help support this venture. Our aim is to ensure that the hall can go on delivering an excellent Parish resource into the future,” said Steve Barber, Honorary Chairman of EWPH Committee.

As a charitable organisation, it is essential that information is stored correctly and is accessible for the future generations. EWPH has stored all documentation online or in hard copy in the hall to ensure new committee members can maintain the award on an ongoing basis.

EWPH has many bookings through 2020, but these awards will enable it to go on promoting the resource and earning valuable revenue to ensure that the hall meets its mission to serve future generations.

East Worlington Parish Hall is a Grade 2 listed, converted Tithe Barn dating from the late 17th Century.

The walls are built of cob and the roof is thatched.

The inside of the main hall has undergone significant conservation work and the original capital A-Frame roof construction and barn door are now a visible feature of the halls original purpose and use.

It was originally used to train dairymaids but over the centuries, has evolved to become a key Parish resource, whose mission is to improve the quality of lives of the local residents by providing high quality activities, facilities, services and events, whilst seeking to conserve, improve and preserve for future generations to use and benefit.

The hall can comfortably hold 80 people and hosts events such as Quiz Nights, Parish Lunches, Community meetings and health related events.

The aim of Hallmark is to recognise the good and hard work undertaken by volunteer management committees, and to encourage improvement and development. Hallmark acts as a signpost and a beacon to both the local community, partners and funders. It shows that committees are managed correctly and are meeting all their legal obligations.
