SINGING to raise funds at the Devon County Show were Alison Balsdon and Katie Grist.

Both members of Cheriton and Tedburn Young Farmers’ Club, the friends have been awarded a place on a national YFC volunteering trip to Nepal in August this year.

To raise funds towards their venture, they sang in the Devon YFC marquee.

In April 2015, Nepal suffered a catastrophic earthquake which affected the entire region, destroyed many old buildings and temples, and affected the lives of millions of people.

The country is now rebuilding which makes it the perfect time to volunteer and support their communities.

During the two weeks of the trip, they will be supporting local farmers to maintain and develop plots to grow fruit and vegetables, sharing environmental and nutritional awareness to the community, and spending time educating and playing with the children in a local care centre.

This is a trip of a life time, but it comes at a huge cost (£2,700 per person).

The pair are also holding fundraising events of their own, including a Pizza and Prosecco Quiz.

They say they would be incredibly appreciative of any support anyone could give towards funding this volunteering trip.
