Amapola is the name of Crediton’s new wine bar, which has opened at the premises formerly occupied by NatWest Bank at the corner of Market Street and High Street. The address of the new bar is 133 High Street.
The new wine bar is a dream come true for the owner, Bruce Evans.
He explained: “I have run Grape and Grain Wine Merchants in the town for 11 years and I have always wanted to open a wine bar here.
“I believe it is something that Crediton has needed for some time.”
The 38-seat bar is full of character and offers wine by the glass or bottle, a range of beers and ciders, soft drinks for drivers and low or no alcohol wine and beers.
It is open from 5pm to 11pm, Thursday to Saturday, until the end of January when the times will be reviewed and hopefully extended.
Those wishing to visit the bar are advised to book their table in advance by calling at Grape and Grain Wine Merchants. Many evenings are currently fully-booked, which is a great sign for a new business.
Bruce hopes to be serving classic cocktails in the near future. Snacks are available at the moment.
The decor and surroundings are luxurious with lovely seating, tables and impressive art work.
Most of the artworks are by local artists or by members of Bruce’s own family.
The bar name, Amapola, is Spanish for Poppy.
Bruce added: “I hope that we offer something different for Crediton, this is a lovely wine bar with table service with a smile.”
