LOCAL lace enthusiast Daphne Pottle has had a love of lace making since the age of six when her mother gave her a lace pillow.
Daphne was born in Ottery St Mary and went to school in Honiton.
Her mother used to teach Honiton Lace making and when she retired in 1976 Daphne took over her classes and became a member of Devon Lace Teachers.
Daphne teaches Honiton Lace at three evening classes a week during normal school term time, in Crediton, Cheriton Fitzpaine and Black Dog.
All three classes are suitable for a range of lace makers from experienced to complete beginners. Daphne is a very knowledgeable and a patient teacher. Her classes take place in a very relaxed, convivial atmosphere conducted at a pace suitable for the knowledge of each individual student.
As well as working on their personal projects students have worked together to decorate three much admired Christmas trees for the Crediton Parish Church Christmas Tree Festival. They are currently working on a new one for this year’s festival.
