AN illustrated talk titled "Curious Dartmoor" will be given by the well-known Dartmoor Guide and author, Paul Rendell at the Boniface Centre, Crediton on Monday, February 20, at 7.30pm.
The event will include topics such as letterboxes, strange cut stones, strange natural stones, the Haytor Granite Tramway, the gunpowder mills, Castle Drogo and filming on Dartmoor.
Paul was born in Plymouth and became enthusiastic about Dartmoor from an early age after being taken on numerous outings by his parents.
Burrator and Sheepstor were two of his favourite places.
He quickly found that he was fascinated by the moor’s industrial archaeology and its wildlife.
After working as a chef and as head gardener at Devonport Dockyard Paul’s Dartmoor loves and interests took him in to leading guided walks and giving talks.
Later he became a professional guide and that has led him in turn to introduce countless people to the delights of walking on Dartmoor.
As a keen local historian Paul has written many articles for newspapers and magazines and has published several books and edits the bimonthly magazine "Dartmoor News".
Paul has been a Dartmoor National Park Guide for more than 21 years and is now a member of the Moorland Guides. There will be ample time for questions .
Admission will be £10 on the door and will include a finger buffet supper.
The event will raise funds for Holy Cross Crediton Campaign Roof Appeal.
