THE Saint Boniface statue in Newcombes Meadow was vandalised with graffiti in May.
Since then, Crediton Town Council has been working to get the graffiti removed as quickly as possible.
Crediton Town Clerk, Rachel Avery, explained: “I am sure many of you may have been wondering why the writing was not removed immediately but unfortunately, due to the delicate Portland stone, it quickly became clear to us that this was going to be a big job.
“After receiving advice from local stonemasons, F J Stevens and Sons, we were able to track down the specialist cleaning needed to successfully remove the paint.
“So, we are pleased to confirm the statue will soon be restored to its former glory for everyone to enjoy, with the clean scheduled for Thursday, July 9.”
