DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue received a call from Devon and Cornwall Police following reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) at Stockleigh Pomeroy on January 18.
It had been reported that one vehicle had left the road, gone through a hedge and come to a standstill within a field, with one person trapped inside.
One fire engine from Crediton, one from Exeter Danes Castle and a heavy rescue vehicle from Exeter Middlemoor stations were mobilised.
On arrival of the first fire engine from Crediton, crews confirmed that the vehicle was on its side and that one person was still inside.
Due to the location of the vehicle and nature of the entrapment all other oncoming resources from the fire service were stood down.
Crews used a tirfor winch, small tools and a short extension ladder to assist the casualty from the vehicle.
Whilst in attendance at this RTC the crews confirmed there were at least two other RTCs on the same stretch of road due to icy conditions.
They confirmed there were no further entrapments and no injuries.
A request was made to highways and to the police to close the road temporarily, due to the icy conditions, to prevent further RTCs occurring.
