AN inquest has been opened into the death of a retired teacher who was allegedly stabbed to death by his nephew at a house in Brampford Speke.
Jonathan Harper, aged 64, of Sevenoaks, Kent, was visiting family at a house in the village when he was fatally injured.
The senior Devon coroner Philip Spinney told the Exeter hearing that the victim was involved in “an altercation for reasons unknown” and suffered stab wounds to his chest at a property in Pikes Cottage Road on the evening of July 31.
A forensic post mortem has been carried out to find the cause of death and further tests are being carried out.
The inquest has been adjourned until a later date.
Company director Corin Harper-Davis, 36, of Dermody Road, London, has been charged with murdering his uncle and has been remanded in custody pending a trial which has been set for Exeter Crown Court on January 20, 2025.
Harper-Davis, who is a director of a video production business, also faced a second charge of assaulting a police officer Laura Niblett.
