Michael Davey (34), of Chapel Street, Tiverton, was charged with drug driving (cocaine) and driving without due care and attention.

He pleaded guilty.

He was disqualified from driving for 18 months and fined £200.

The collision took place at around 8.40am on May 12, 2024 and involved a beige Volvo V40.

Local residents coned off the road in the area and a police cordon was then placed in the area.

Three ambulances, a fire crew from Exeter and paramedics from a Devon Air Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The driver was airlifted by a Devon Air Ambulance to Derriford Hospital with injuries which, at the time, were believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for many hours while an investigation was carried out at the scene.

Officers from the Roads Policing Team thanked the public for their patience whilst the road was closed.

Devon County Council Highways engineers spread sand on the road surface immediately after the incident and motorists were advised to drive with care.

Police also issued a witness appeal and an appeal for dash cam footage at the time.
