STAFF and pupils at Chulmleigh College marked another year of success on Thursday, August 24, when the GCSE results were released.

They showed that 67 per cent of pupils gained the English and Maths result (combined).

Out of a cohort of 117, five pupils gained a clean sweep of A*/ A grades.

These grades were achieved by Faye Pidgeon, Livvy Jenkins, Samantha Gold and Chloe Cole.

Laura Fraser Smith achieved nine A* grades and a grade 9 in Maths and English.

Laura said: “I’m shocked and delighted. I’m going to join Exeter College’s Reach Academy and am now thinking beyond this too.”

Equally proud of a great achievement was Sam Chiu, who made the most progress in the school, by achieving grades which were very significantly higher than indicated by the targets set for him when he joined the school.

Sam gained 12 GCSEs with A grades in Business Studies and Religious Studies.

Sam said: “I have worked very hard to achieve this.”

Equally impressive progress scores were attained by many pupils.

A noteworthy achievement came from Mia Kasperavicuite who gained one A*, four A grades and five grade Bs, after being at the school for four years and being unable to speak English when she started.

Mia’s father said: “I am delighted with these results and am so pleased that the school have moulded my daughter, who has become very engaged in academic work”.

Michael Johnson, Executive Headteacher, said: “The national debate about GCSE results cannot detract from the hard work, ambition and tenacity the children at this great school.

“These results are another demonstration of the strength of Chulmleigh College and the results set us on the right trajectory into 2017-8.”

Mr Payne, Executive Deputy Headteacher, said: “We are particularly pleased with the performance of children in English and the contribution made to another strong set of EBacc results.”
