RENEWABLE Energy Systems Ltd (RES), the renewable energy developer which recently completed construction of the Den Brook Wind Farm, in the Den Brook valley between North Tawton, Bow and Spreyton, recently welcomed more than 50 primary school children to the wind farm to learn about how renewable energy is generated by onshore wind turbines.
Richard Wagstaff, RES’ construction manager for Den Brook Wind Farm delivered a short introduction on how electricity is generated before RES welcomed two groups of students from North Tawton Community Primary School onto the site for a coach tour and an opportunity to stand next to and touch one of the turbine towers.
Danielle Hill, the teacher who organised the visit, said: “It was fantastic to be one of the first groups to visit the operational wind farm and the children loved their visit.
“They had an enjoyable time learning about electricity and the wind farm which is on their doorstep.”
Following the visit, Richard Wagstaff said: “It was fantastic to welcome children, staff and adult helpers from North Tawton Community Primary School to Den Brook as they have watched its construction progress over the last year.
“We talked about electricity and renewable energy, materials and steps taken to manage and enhance the habitat around the wind farm. The children seemed to have a good trip and we enjoyed welcoming them to Den Brook.”
Construction of the wind farm is now complete with final ecological works currently underway. ?Residents/groups are encouraged to look out for further information on the Community Benefit Fund which will become available once the wind farm is fully operational.
