WHAT could be nicer on a wet, dreary November morning than sharing a big breakfast in a warm hall with good company while helping raise funds for a good cause.
That was what members of Bow Young Farmers’ Club were offering on Saturday, November 5, at Bow Village Hall, their first big fundraising event of their year in aid of FORCE, the local cancer charity.
Earlier that week the YFC members had given away £2,500, the proceeds of a year’s fundraising, splitting it between FORCE and Devon Air Ambulance, which has a night landing site beside Bow Village Hall.
The Devon Air Ambulance cheque was received by local volunteers Gill Gunn and John Groves while the FORCE cheque was received by Diane Pring and Ann.
The money had been mainly raised through the dung sale in the spring, bingo evenings and a Big Breakfast.
The next fundraising event will be a Christmas bingo at the Waie Inn, Zeal Monachorum on Tuesday, December 20, eyes down at 7.30pm.
So far as possible, all the ingredients for the Big Breakfast had been locally sourced.
Bow YFC is part of the biggest rural youth movement and you do not need to be in farming to become a member.
Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Down St Mary Village Hall. To know more please contact the chairman on 07960 197 460.
